Help Raise Awareness Of Diabetes At The Dothan Diabetes Walk

Dothan Diabetes Walk

Every step you take … every move you make … is for a great cause! This April 7, 2019, join the Diabetes Walk for Camp Seale Harris and bring awareness to the disease, as well as raising funds to help send kids to Alabama’s only camp for children with diabetes.

Walk the Walk

The Diabetes walk is a 5K or 1-mile run/walk that’s totally free – participants can donate or create a fund-raising page to contribute to the proceeds of the event. Walkers will meet at the Kiwanis Shelter in Westgate Park, where there will be music, healthy snacks, educational information about diabetes, awards, and prizes. The Sunday schedule begins after lunch:

  • 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.: check-in and registration
  • 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.: welcome and announcements
  • 2:30 p.m. to 4: p.m.: walk

Camp Seale Harris

The mission of Camp Seale Harris and the Southeastern Diabetes Education Services organization is “to educate, encourage, and empower children with diabetes and their families to live well.” The camp offers children with diabetes the opportunity to have a summer camp experience with medical staff on hand – including endocrinologists, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, and more – to monitor blood sugar levels and ensure that kids get to be kids and have fun. It’s also a chance for parents of diabetic children to send them to camp without worry. Registration is available online at this link, and every child who attends Camp Seale Harris receives financial aid or a scholarship.
